How a New Asset Grows Up

Seventy-four sales, three months, one pattern underneath: not one of the ten largest cleared on GoDaddy or Afternic. How a new asset finds its price — and outgrows its middlemen.

The name is not an accident

Thank you, Dr. Beckett.

Dr. James Beckett did the obvious, radical thing: he published the numbers — comps, a confidence band, the same page for the dealer and the twelve-year-old. We copied him, name and all. The W is just where we stand in line behind him.

Weckett is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Beckett Media or Dr. James Beckett.

Puny HA
Web braille

Some names aren't written to be read — they're written to be felt for. Punycode, IDN, the glyphs that render one way to a browser and another to a person: web braille. A whole alphabet the pricing tools skip because they can't see it. We price it anyway.

Why It Matters

Digital real estate investors deserve a real pricing tool.

Automated appraisal tools dominate the industry. They produce instant numbers based on keyword metrics, character counts, and historical averages. The output feels precise. Precision is not accuracy.

Golf.ai sells for $140,000. Registrar valued it at $2,141. That is a 65× gap. Chat.com sells for $15.5M against a $3M ceiling estimate.

That is not an edge case. Point estimates without comps or confidence can diverge sharply from realized sale prices.

WECKETT is an independent pricing reference for serious participants in digital real estate. Not a commodity tool. Built selective, by design.

What WECKETT Does

Three things. Done with discipline.

Evaluates Domains

Model estimates built on 20,625 compiled aftermarket sale records. Every price includes a confidence band, not just a point estimate. The model is transparent — methodology, training data, and limitations are published.

Publishes Research

Original research on pricing trends, market structure, and the reasoning behind how domains are priced — published openly, with methodology and limitations in view.

Builds Trust Infrastructure

Structured evaluation process. Published methodology. Transparent limitations. Every estimate is defensible — not because the number is perfect, but because the reasoning is visible.

Who It's Built For

Serious participants in digital real estate.

Why Trust It

The data speaks. We just organize it.

68% In-Band

On a blind test of 200 random mid-market sales ($500–$50K), WPS v5.2, 68% of actual sale prices fell within the model's confidence band. This is confidence-band coverage on that test sample, not point accuracy.

20,625 Domain Asset Comps

Training data sourced from compiled aftermarket sale records across 23 years (2004–2026). 50+ feature attributes. RandomForest V5.2 architecture. Cross-validated across 5 folds on the expanded 4.75× training set. 1.72M pre-scored names in the WPS lookup.

Transparent Limits

We publish what the model cannot do. Strategic acquisitions, narrative-driven pricing, and private sales are explicitly excluded from scope. Honesty is the product.

"Many platforms optimize for immediate output. WECKETT optimizes for structured reasoning."

From the Weckett Model

Marquee sales, accuracy metrics, price guide, and derivative appraisals — updated with each model refresh.

Why This Exists
We built WECKETT because the domain aftermarket has no trusted pricing authority.
The domain aftermarket lacks a transparent, independent pricing reference. Automated point estimates are often presented without comps, confidence, or method, and can diverge widely from realized sale prices. We think the market deserves a reference that shows its work.

WECKETT is a pricing-intelligence platform built on 20,625 compiled aftermarket sale records from reported marketplaces. The model is transparent about its limits: R² of 0.28 on a held-out test set (log10 scale, 5-fold cross-validated), WPS v5.2. On a blind test of 200 random mid-market sales ($500–$50K), 68% of actual sale prices fell within the model's confidence band — confidence-band coverage on that test sample, not point accuracy — and we show our work on every estimate.

This is not a tool that prices every domain on the internet. It's a selective reference layer for serious participants — buyers, sellers, brokers, appraisers, and investors who need structured reasoning, not instant guesswork.

Asset Type Example Realized Automated Gap Why the Tool Fails
Interface-defining brand Chat.com (2023) $15.5M $1.0M – $3.0M 5× – 15× No strategic optionality model. "Chat" as keyword ≠ "chat" as primary AI interface.
Category-defining generic Gold.com $8.5M · Connect.com $10M $8.5M – $10M $500K – $2.0M 3× – 10× Cannot model index-constituent behavior or decade-long holding thesis.
AI semantic anchor AI.com $70M · You.ai $700K $700K – $70M $500K – $5.0M 2× – 14× Narrative velocity: appraisals lag adoption 12–36 months.

AI interface primitive Stack.ai $258K · Sound.ai $250K $125K – $259K $100K – $400K 2× – 12× Interface-value not modeled. Sound.ai was private — never in training data.
Sport / lifestyle + .ai Golf.ai $140K (2024) $140,000 $500 – $2,000 70× – 280× Sport + TLD premium — a combination automated point estimates often miss.

Three Inputs Automated Tools Cannot Model
Strategic Optionality
What a domain is worth to the one buyer who needs to control that category.
Interface Primitives
When a word becomes the name for a modality, its value decouples from keyword traffic.
Narrative Velocity
Markets price narratives before they price cash flows. Automated tools cannot model what the market has decided is coming.
SECTION 03 — THE BECKETT STANDARD

Methodology & Model Performance

Beckett published transparent comps for trading-card prices for decades. We do the same for domains. Every estimate shows its work — training data, confidence bands, and confidence-band coverage on a blind test of 200 random mid-market sales ($500–$50K), WPS v5.2.
