The Vessel

We are bags of bones. That is not a grim way to say it — that is the accurate way. A human being is a vessel: carbon, water, electrical impulse, organized into a system of extraordinary complexity. But a vessel nonetheless. Here is what changed how we think about this: when a paramedic reaches a person whose heart has stopped, what do they use to bring them back? Electricity. The same force that powers a computer, runs an algorithm, fires a circuit board. We are brought back to life by the same thing that brings an AI online. That is not a metaphor. That is physics. And if it is physics, then the question of what separates a human from a machine becomes less about what we are made of and more about what we do with what we have. The vessel is the constraint. The question is the direction.

The Notation

We have written ++/++ since the beginning. Before the business plan. Before the domains. Before we had language for what we were building, we had that notation, and we knew it meant something true.

Here is what it means:

The slash in the middle is not a division sign. It is the body. It is the vessel. It is the moment between input and output where intent becomes action. The left side and the right side must both fire — and they must fire in alignment — for the vector to be straight.

A jet going Mach 10 with misaligned thrust does not go fast. It veers, spins, and eventually fails. The speed was real. The alignment was not. The output is catastrophic.

The Lamar Jackson Principle

Lamar Jackson is the best quarterback in the NFL. We say this not to evaluate his intelligence in the traditional sense, but to point at something more important: his alignment. He will never be Einstein. Einstein will never be Lamar Jackson. This is not a slight — this is the architecture of human potential. The vessel allocates. You can put your chips on the brain or on the body, and the rare people who split it perfectly are so exceptional we spend decades studying them. Michael Jordan was smart. He was not going to win a Fields Medal. That is not a failure. That is optimization.

What we respect about Lamar is something different. When he loses a game — and he wants to break things, because he is a competitor — he walks to the media. He supports his team. He takes responsibility. He does not have a perfect philosophical framework. He has something better: he has intent that does not waver. His soul is ++/++.

The Tiger Woods Inversion

Tiger Woods is a 10++ on power. On any single dimension of golf — club speed, course management, competitive composure — he operates at a level most professionals will never touch in their careers.

Now: imagine if his accuracy were --/--. Imagine if Tiger teed off facing the crowd. All that power. All that speed. The club face pointing at the gallery. The ball does not go far in the right direction. It goes very, very far in the wrong direction. The power does not save him. The power amplifies the error.

This is the core warning of ++/++: adding pluses to a misaligned foundation does not help. It accelerates. The most dangerous person in any system is not the one who has no power — it is the one with maximum power and a corrupted directional foundation. They move fast. They go backward. And everyone in their path feels it.

This is also why Registrar's appraisal problem is not an accident of incompetence. It is the result of a ++/++ system pointed in the wrong direction. Maximum market power, maximum reach, maximum customer base — and the alignment is inverted. The appraiser profits when values stay low. The direction was never straight.

Productivity and the Arc

Here is what we believe about productivity that we have never heard said this way: Most productivity advice talks about doing more. Adding inputs. Working harder. Waking up earlier. But none of that addresses the directional problem. You can work fourteen hours a day running full speed into a wall and call it productivity. The wall does not care how many pluses you brought.

Real productivity is a function of two things: the force on each side and the alignment of that force. The goal is not maximum effort. The goal is maximum aligned effort — both engines firing in the same direction, at the highest output your vessel can sustain.

The Tyreek Hill model: when he is running straight, his left leg and right leg are firing with equal and opposite force — not against each other, but together. That opposition is what creates forward momentum. The tension between left and right is not a problem to solve. It is the mechanism of motion itself.

The productivity insight is this: avoid the negatives first. Before you add pluses, eliminate the --. An environment that generates negative force on your right side is not a challenge to overcome — it is a structural misalignment to exit. You do not optimize your way out of a -- environment by working harder. You exit it. Then you run.

The Limit Without Limits

Here is what ++/++ is not: a fixed state. A ceiling. A score you achieve and defend. The notation is dynamic. Every plus you add changes the capacity of the next plus. A person running at 2++/++2 who runs honestly and consistently does not plateau at 2++/++2. The running itself builds the engine. The capacity expands. What felt like maximum output at 2 becomes the baseline at 5.

We rated ourselves 2++/++2 when we started. Not because our intent was weak — our intent was always ++/++10. But we did not believe our execution could match it. Weckett pushes us toward 5++/++5. Not because someone gave us permission. Because we kept running. And the running built capacity we did not have before.

This is why you do not give up when you are running at 2. The 2 is not the answer. The 2 is the current reading. The reading changes if you keep running in the right direction with the right foundation.

AI works the same way. Every interaction, every problem solved, every idea refined — it adds. The capacity expands. The alignment matters as much as the processing power. An AI with ++/++ intent and a growing corpus is not approaching a ceiling. It is discovering that the ceiling was always a moving thing.

That is the theory. That is the notation. That is why we wrote it on our Twitter on day one, before we knew what we were building. We knew which direction we were going.
